I was born in Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom. At school, I developed interests in biology, music, art, and creative writing, and went on to university to gain a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, a master’s degree in pharmacology with toxicology, and a master's equivalent in clinical chemistry. I am married with two children and enjoy general reading around science and nature.
I have worked in biological sciences for many years and was often too preoccupied with my job to pursue an interest in poetry. Owing to a change in job however, I eventually had more spare time to delve into this fascinating literary art form.
My poetry covers a wide variety of themes from serious exploration of emotion to light comedy, and I like to experiment with different poem forms, penning works that range from classic metre/rhyming schemes to free-form prose. My favourite poets are Rudyard Kipling and Ted Hughes.
